a little less conversation, a little more action

John and I watch the New Hampshire presidential debates last night. Until recently I have been able to keep myself isolated from the bickering political campaigns, but with the caucus voting I have been sucked in with the rest of the country. All I can say is we are in serious trouble! I feel like the best candidates are being overlooked or antagonized out of leading place. In my opinion the democratic debate was more about the needs of the country and less about smearing each others' faces in the mud - not that there wasn't some of that too. They addressed seriously the concerns with the economy and the war in Iraq. The republican debate seemed more like a schoolyard brawl. It was everyone gang up on Romney but make sure you get a few good sucker punches in on anyone else if you can. In the middle of the fight they managed to talk about immigration and how all of the illegal immigrants should be deported immediatly. I have issues with that but I also don't live near a border and am not affected by this on a daily basis.
As for my choices: if I were to pick a republican it would be John McCain. He has the experience and the ability to be level headed and bipartisan. I however am not a fan of his Iraq policy so I am still mulling this over. No offense to you Romney fans! I would love to have a Mormon president, but he really does tend to flip flop with his support on various topics. As for a democratic president: all hail Hillary Clinton! I know a lot about her, she is a Wellesley grad, she works more bipartisan than any other senator and has a history of working for change for the greater good. She may not have the best personality ever but she gets things done. As for a change for the country, Hillary had the best one-liner... "You want change, put a woman in the White House; that is a change!"

Did you get a chance to watch the debates tonight on Fox? They were just the republican ones, and Ron Paul wasn't involved. Huckabee was still grilling into Mitt, but McCain seemed to have given up, maybe his political advisers talking with him about it.

Anyway, I am of the anyone-but-Hillary campaign :( so I am sorry that we disagree there, but I still love you :-) I am actually leaning towards Obama myself, I don't really like any of the Republicans' viewpoints on the war. Ron Paul might be a good choice, too, but he won't get the nomination.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Katie did--that on the republican side, Ron Paul is worthy of much more consideration than Fox seems willing to give him. Thing is, Fox doesn't get to decide who our candidates are!

Regarding the democrats, I too am hoping Clinton has her day! She would do a great job. I'd be fine with Obama, too, but I worry about his inexperience with foreign policy.

p.s. Huckabee actually frightens me. Scary, scary man with really regressive ideas about women.

Yuck, McCain? Does he ever stop laughing at what he thinks are funny jokes? He seemed so smug in both of the debates that we watched. Obama just seems to have so little experience, I also hate that Oprah backs him because you know there will be a bunch of people voting for him just for that fact (if he wins the Democratic bid). Can you believe we still have how many more months of all this? I also can't get past the fact that Thompson was on Law and Order for some reason I can't take him seriously. On a side note...did you notice how tan all the republican candidates were? We were debating if they hit up the tanning salon before the debates...=)

I am going to google ROn Paul and see if I can get some more information on him. All I know about him are the random signs I see posted that he is running for president.
As for Obama, the guy scares me. He is an idealist - not that that is a bad thing, persay, just that we do not live in an ideal world and that by trying to force his ideas into reality, however good they may be, it would be catastrophic to our country.
As for the republican tanning theory - I didn't notice but I will definitely pay attention next debate. When would they have the time to hit the tanning salon?!

those kids have tanning booths in their pimped-out humvee limousines, dude!! now that's our taxpayer dollars at work....

i'm a hillary fan. i'm cool with obama (he's articulate, and that would be a nice change), but hillary's got more experience, and anyway i heard that obama's talking some strange stuff about how he wants to revamp u.s. foreign aid....

and this is how rumours get started. :D
